- And The Winning Mattress is …
- For sleepers with specific needs
It is time to put the two main ‘Pedic’ mattresses head-to-head in a battle that will decide which one we feel is worth our vote and recommendation.
Both Tempur-Pedic and Sealy Posturepedic have been around for many years now. And a familiar debate is: which one is better? That debate has gotten a little easier because some years back, the two brands were not very comparable. Tempur-Pedic did not offer any mattresses with springs and Sealy was starting to add gel foam and memory foam to their game. One was known as a foam brand, the other, an innerspring brand.
Well, now they both offer hybrid lines of similar design that we can compare side-by-side to determine once and for all which one is better.

- Almost no valuable information about the foam they use.
Tempur-Pedic came about in 1992. They quickly became a household name via their mall marketing efforts. There was just nothing like it at the time. However, back then Tempur-Pedic was a one pony show. They had their Tempur-material memory foam bed, and that was it. Now, they have many different products.
The Bed we’ll be comparing today is their TEMPUR-Flex Supreme. Flex Supreme is a hybrid mattress using fast acting, responsive foam underneath their more traditional memory foam top and a set of individually wrapped precision coils inside the bed.
This mattress is medium to medium-firm and is intended to offer the best of both worlds: traditional Tempur-Pedic foam that conforms to your body and a bit of that full body support and bounce that only springs can give you.
- They offer a 90-day period to try mattress (no refunds given they will work with you to find a Tempur product that is suitable for your needs).
- Tempur-Pedic comes with a 10-year limited warranty
- White glove delivery with every Tempur-Pedic bed.
- Built in the United States.
Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Comparison
Not only are these beds different, the companies that make them have fundamental differences as well. Let’s break them down and see what the fundamental similarities and differences are.
How are Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Similar
How are Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Similar
You can poke and prod both of these mattresses in retail stores across America. This is beneficial because unlike online-only brands, you can lie down on each of these to see which one feels better to you.
Ok, so this might seem a little confusing because you probably read that Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-day sleep trial. So, how is this the same? It’s the same because Tempur-Pedic’s claim of a sleep trial is misleading. Neither of these beds offers a real sleep trial because once you buy, you are stuck with the brand. They may offer to give you a different firmness or different line at a similar price, but you will get no refund.
Posturepedic and Tempur-Pedic are quite similar with their manufacturer warranty. Another similarity is that you’ll have to double and triple check the warranty get with your purchase because it will be dependent upon the retailer you bought your bed from.
The coil edges on the Posturepedic Hybrid are probably a little bit better than the edge support on the TEMPUR-Flex. But it isn’t such a notable difference that I would factor it into a purchasing decision. They both support you decently enough if you have to sleep on the edge of the bed.
How Posturepedic & TEMPUR-Pedic are Different
I must admit that looking that the Sealy website is a little bit confusing when it comes to the way they display prices. But I did find queen-sized Hybrids from the Premium Collection at just 1299.00 online. The Sealy site shows 1499.99 and also 1299.00 is another section. Regardless of this price discrepancy, the best of the best for a queen hybrid Sealy is well over a thousand dollars less than Tempur-Pedic.
Tempur-Pedic offers many other beds that are built entirely different for Posturepedic. However, these to models are quite similar in the fact that they are both hybrid mattresses using individual innersprings wrapped in Memory Foam.
Posturepedic Hybrid mattresses are based around their CORESUPPORT™. They pack their springs 20 percent tighter around the lumbar and core region of the bed, where up to 50 percent more weight tends to rest. The top half of the bed is Posturepedic’s Immersion™ Advanced Memory Foam with Chill™. This used to be just the SealyCool Gel foam, which took up almost the entire top-half of the bed, but in 2017 they added more foam technology to reduce motion transfer and better conform to your body and adequately cradles all your nooks and crannies.
Some of the body-conforming gel foam is cut out on the underside of this layer in the center third (lumbar area). The comfort foam here is replaced with CORESUPPORT™ reinforced gel memory foam for additional support where most people need it.
The base of the Hybrid Posturepedic bed is made up of Response Pro Zoned HD™ Encased Coils. Each coil is individually encased so that they can move independently for targeted support and help to further reduce motion transfer.
The material used to cover the bed is a moisture-wicking fabric that stays cool to the touch. The Premium and Performance collections also use clean technology, which things like dust and mites.
The TEMPUR-Flex Supreme has a top layer that is TEMPUR-ES memory foam that will be familiar to those who have laid down on a Tempur-Pedic bed in the past. It is super conforming and slow to respond, which initially gives it that classic Tempur-Pedic feel.
However, the following layers are a bit different than other Tempur-Pedic beds. The Response layer is made of TEMPUR-Response foam. This is a slightly springier foam that responds much quicker to pressure so that it assists in supporting your weight and keeping it evenly distributed across the individually wrapped precision coils below.
The coils make up the Dynamic Support Layer. They are tightly packed and are designed to work in conjunction with the responsive foam to adapt to movement and the curves of your body.
The TEMPUR-Flex Supreme is hands-down the best in its class at stopping energy from transferring along the bed. People who thrash in their sleep still would not disturb their partner in the TEMPUR-Flex (that is, unless they end up elbowing or kicking them).
Posturepedic takes the term ‘product line’ two a whole other level. You could fill an entire mattress retail store just with Sealy Posturepedic products.
How They Feel
I hate to take the easy way out here, but TEMPUR-Flex feels like a Tempur-Pedic. It has that classic memory foam feel where your body sinks into the foam. There is a little bit more bounce though, thanks to the highly-responsive foam in the response layer.
This bed still hugs your body a lot, but the coils and light response foam do wonders in assisting your body motion while you lie on top of the bed. Side sleepers should like this mattress. It has a balanced amount of body contouring and support.
Posturepedic Hybrid feels slightly different. There is a lot of memory foam, so you do sink in a little bit. But the coils are much larger as well, so you have a little more bounce than the Tempur-Pedic. You can really feel the core support in the lumbar region. So, back sleepers will rejoice in this bed.
Both of these beds do pretty well for all types of sleepers. Though compared to each other, they excel in different areas. The Tempur-Pedic is a little bit better for side sleepers. I believe this is mostly because the extra lumbar support on the Posturepedic pushes at a side sleepers hips just a tad more.
That said, the Posturepedic outshines the Tempur-Pedic for back sleepers. It seems like their CORESUPPORT™ system took back sleepers into mind. For people who sleep on their stomachs, there isn’t much of a difference. Both evenly support your weight and keep you breathing naturally.
Posturepedic Hybrid comes with an UltraStretch, High-Loft Knit cover with moisture-wicking technology. If you step up to the Premium collection, it also comes with ChillTech for added cooling properties on your sleeping surface.
TEMPUR-Pedic uses a stretch knit cover that is super easy to remove. The material is a thick blend of spandex and polyester.

For sleepers with specific needs
Side Sleepers: Choose Posturepedic
Side sleepers will enjoy the Posturepedic over many other mattresses because of its uber thick Immersion foam layer infused with cooling gel (Chill™ Technology).
Stomach Sleepers: Choose Posturepedic
Stomach sleepers will take advantage of the additional core support through the middle third of the bed. The core support helps to keep your entire body level so that you don’t have any added pressure on your chest.
People With Back Pain: Choose Posturepedic
The Response Pro Zoned HD™ Encased Coil System responds well to the shape of your body. The system will keep you aligned so that your back can decompress and receive proper blood flow.
Heavy People: Choose Posturepedic
The DuraFlex Edge and ability to purchase the Hybrid in FIRM makes the Posturepedic the right choice for heavier people.
Couples: Choose Posturepedic
Couples sharing a bed face the issue of one being a bed hog. This often forces the more passive sleeper to the edge of the bed where support can be lacking. Luckily, Posturepedic comes with DuraFlex edges with coil support. If you get stuck near the edge, you’ll never feel like you are going to fall off.
The Posturepedic Hybrid Performance and Premium compare very well with the Tempur-Flex Supreme. I would say that these two mattress lines are equal in quality. But the deciding factor is: you can get the Posturepedic for much less money. Sealy receives our recommendation and wins the war with TEMPUR-Pedic!
