Sealy Posturpedic Mattress Review 2023 : Is It Worth It?
In This Article
One of the major things that this manufacturer has in their favor is brand recognition. Sealy has the greatest market share of any other one in this $7 billion industry at 19 percent of US sales. The company’s humble beginnings started in 1881 in Sealy, Tx. Back then, they produced cotton-filled mattresses. It wasn’t until 1952 before its Posturepedic Technology came onboard.
To its credit, Sealy has manufactured its products in the United States from the start. Its business model includes a network of retailers who handle the sales end. You can find a retailer near you and try them out for yourself before committing to a purchase. It’s a stark departure from many start-up companies that shun what they refer to as pushy sales pitches and the like.
It is a private company. However, they must feel the pressure of these alternatives. They launched their own online platform, Cocoon, boasting that it was a new way to shop. Direct-to-consumer businesses could only shake their heads. Sealy’s e-commerce site sells just two mattresses and not the full Posturepedic line. Our review will concentrate on the latter.
Sealy carries a wide range of products with innerspring, memory foam, and hybrid mattresses. Each line has varying price points with more features and upgrades. They focus on a specific audience as you’ll see with features like firmness levels and layers. You’ll find three collections for each one including:
The prices more than double with as you move up the scale. There are not a lot of middle-of-the-road choices. The Posturepedic Technology is only available with the last two collections. The differences rest with other features such as the type of foam and the number of coils in the other products.
They also offer adjustable bases in another nod to the growing pressure within this industry to diversify and consider the entire sleep experience. They come in three options with additional enhancements. They range from good to best:
- Reflexion UP
- Reflexion 4
Also, they make their StableSupport Foundations along with cribs, bedding, and dog mattresses. The theme here is to take care of everyone in the family. The latter is a wise marketing strategy considering that it is an estimated $72.13 billion industry. Each of these products types has its own online site.
To be fair, a significant part of the buying experience rests with the retailer. They are the ambassadors for Sealy. With hundreds of partners, it’s difficult to make general statements. We’ll focus on what you can expect when dealing directly with the company starting with its contact options and website.
We’ll give the company props for having an excellent site with information that is readily available. You can get in touch with them by email or phone on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. EST. The FAQ section covers the basics of shopping, sizing, and care. The answers are succinct but also include the occasional sales pitch for other products.
They have a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. They have nearly 500,000 followers on Facebook. They post regularly with mainly marketing copy. They are not active on Twitter. The YouTube channel has a fair amount of content including videos about their manufacturing process which we liked.
They don’t have a blog that we could find. However, it’s a minor point given the fact that it’s better not to have one than something that is out-of-date. Their website also contains career and investor information to cover all their bases. Product descriptions are incomplete without pertinent details like dimensions and materials.
Coupons, Discounts, Sales & Deals
You can’t miss the banner on the bottom of every web page with current offers. We appreciate the fact that it wasn’t an in-your-face pop-up ad. At least they have the user experience in mind with their site design. You can get up to $300 off, depending on the mattress, collection, and other purchases you make. It is good through June 3.
Sleep Trials, Warranties, and Return Policy
We didn’t find information on the Sealy website regarding sleep trials. Presumably, that depends on the retailer and their policies. The company suggests contacting the retailer for issues about returns and warranties. If you need additional assistance, the Customer Service Section provides links to the documents based on when you purchased it.
From the looks of it, the warranty has evolved through the years with the latest rendering from 2014. As we expected, they include oodles of fine print and specific conditions that read like legal papers. The language is not straightforward in the least. That sends up a red flag because of the extensive use of lawyer-speak.

What Sizes Is It Available In?
You’ll find Sealy Hybrid Mattresses available in the following sizes:
- Twin (75 inches long by 38 inches wide)
- Twin XL (80 inches by 38 inches)
- Double (75 inches by 53 inches)
- Queen (80 inches by 60 inches)
- King (80 inches by 76 inches)
- Split King (80 inches by 76 inches)
- California King (84 inches by 72 inches)
The height varies with the model. The FAQs also state that other dimensions may vary too by ½ to 1 inches. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t provide this information and instead, directs you to find a retailer. That’s a bit of a fail as far we’re concerned since it put up a barrier to researching its line of products.
What’s It Made Out Of?
You’ll find three selections in this line as we discussed previously. You’ll see the information displayed in a handy comparison chart that provides details about the cover, top layer, coil system, and edge. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the thickness but rather just proprietary names of the different technologies.
You can see a diagram of the layers on the Why Posturepedic Page but no other specs. Certainly, a prospective buyer could get this information from a retailer or an Internet search. However, we feel that it should be present on the company’s website. After all, that’s the place that one-third of customers visit before the purchase.
Is It Good For…?
Yes and No.
The answer depends on the firmness level that you choose. That, in turn, rests with the collection that you pick. Your only option for the Essential is firm which leaves out side sleepers. These individuals fare best with a softer mattress that can conform to the natural curves of their bodies.
The Performance gives you more choices with firm, cushion firm, and plush. The last two may strike the right balance you need between comfort and support. The Premium includes firm, plush, and ultra plush. It also gives you a good selection. However, bear in mind that the cost skyrockets with these two collections.
The challenge that stomach sleepers face is getting a mattress that is firm enough to support their sleeping position. That will prevent neck and back strain that may occur if it is too soft. All the collections include a firm option. Our advice is to consider the other features because of the wide disparity in costs. The Posturepedic Technology ramps up your cost considerably.
Again, the choice of a firm mattress is the deciding factor with this criterion. That level offers better support and keeps your spine in a neutral position. We’d suggest trying it out for yourself in one of the many showrooms out there for you to visit. It’d be helpful to know the thickness of the memory foam layer to make a better assessment.
Yes and No.
The answer is a function of your weight, firmness, and layer construction. Once again, we’re left with the collection that you choose. Generally, the softer the mattress, the more likely you’ll feel too warm. It’s worth noting that Sealy addresses this issue in the top layers of its Performance and Premium options—for a price.
Heavier individuals tend to find firmer mattresses a better option for comfort because of the extra support they provide. All three collections have this option, so you have a starting point. Hybrid models perform well on this score because of the multiple layers. The Sealy offerings are a good example of combining both these traits.
Hybrid mattresses are a good choice if this is a major factor for you. The Sealy’s offerings with their edge support give you plenty of room. The layers provide a comfortable surface. The coil system is another point in its favor with individually wrapped coils for discretion along with decent responsiveness.
Where Can I Buy It?
Sealy stands out because of your myriad of options for buying one. The website has a handy retailer search function to help you get started. You enter your zip code and desired range to get a list of those near you. Depending on your choice, you may shop online. E-commerce sites such as Amazon and Macy’s offer products on their websites.
Inexplicably, the site doesn’t have active links to the retailers. Rather, all you’ll find is a redirect to Google Maps for directions. It is a puzzling omission given that it benefits the manufacturer as much as it does the store. Our take is that the company wants you in the showroom to hear a sales pitch. And as you’ll see, the market is responding to this dated approach to business.
How Much Does the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress Cost?
As we mentioned earlier, only the Performance and Premium collections offer the Posturepedic Technology. The manufacturer’s website provided the following price information for a queen-size mattress:
- Performance: $1,299
- Premium: $1,999
We compared these figures to an online retailer in our area. Unfortunately, the first two ones did not carry the hybrid nor did one carry any Sealy products. The search function is not keyed to the product type. Our research also found several other mattresses with brand names like Cobalt and Lawson which did not appear on the company’s website.
The prices we saw online were across the board, making it difficult to provide what should be simple information. Again, we feel as if we must visit a retailer to get any details on their products. Part of the issue rests with different branding on e-commerce sites. While the concept is understandable, it led to confusion.
Is It Worth It?
Answering this question is hard without knowing the specs and materials for this mattress. We scoured the Net to find reviews to get a handle on the pulse of buyers. The comments we found were lukewarm at best. Individuals cited the lack of adequate temperature regulation even in the Premium collection. There were also questions about the degree of firmness.
Our experience finding out specific information was unsatisfying from learning about the products to locating a retailer. First impressions are vital. Ours was not a pleasant one. We can’t recommend buying this mattress without more details upfront. It’s definitely a missed opportunity for this manufacturer given that people are willing to spend money on a comfortable mattress.
Shipping information varies with the retailer. Many such as Macy’s offer free in-store pickup which is a popular option for many brick-and-mortar stores. You can shop online from the comfort of your home. You’ll also see complimentary delivery too, depending on the shop. We suggest you ask about white glove delivery and removal before you buy.
Why Not to Buy a Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress
Frankly, it’s difficult to say many positive things about the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress. The lack of information on the manufacturer’s website and the wild goose chase to find the collections left a bad taste in our mouths. We believe that the manufacturer’s website is the definitive source for all the product information.
Another sore point concerned sleep trials. Some individuals who purchased one online did not have this option. That’s a shame given the fact that it’s a standard practice with many direct-to-consumer businesses. Others cited back pain and other comfort issues. They mentioned sagging which is frequent complaint and often associated with this problem.
It’s telling that the manufacturer’s website doesn’t list any reviews, positive or negative. It’s an old-school approach which doesn’t sit well in these days where a company’s transparency is a deciding factor driving sales. Perhaps that’s one reason that the parent company has branched out into the direct-to-consumer market.
Other sites we looked at were more open on this score. The Sealy site mentioned that it was the number one hybrid as rated by a leading consumer publication that it doesn’t identify. We found that curious since it could offer a major selling point.

Buying a new mattress is stressful on its own. After all, sleep plays some an integral part in your wellbeing and health. That’s why it makes sense to scope out your options, especially given the fact that a quality product is a major investment. The right one is something you’ll have for many years, so it makes sense to take your time to research it.
We’ve done that for you with a short list of alternatives for you to consider. We’ll point to the key features of each one with comments about customer service, delivery, and warranty information to give you a better foundation for making this important decision. Remember, you’ll spend a third of your life in your bedroom.
Okay. So the name is a bit out there but trust us. The company is one of the up and coming in the direct-to-consumer business model. Ghostbed’s focus is on the entire sleep experience with bases, foundations, and even sheets. Temperature regulation is a major part of their concern. The top layer of its mattress includes two layers of latex foam to dissipate heat.
It’s followed by gel memory foam and a supportive layer for an 11-inch high mattress. It provides ample support to prevent back pain and pressure points. It is medium firm. You’ll get a 100-night sleep trial to test out your purchase. They are forthcoming with specs and reviews so that you know exactly what you’re getting. It also comes with a 20-year warranty.
eLuxury Hybrid Mattress
The eLuxury Hybrid Mattress combines the best of both worlds with gel memory foam and latex for superior comfort with the support of an innerspring model. All their foams are CertiPUR – US certified. The four layers help to distribute your weight for a more comfortable sleeping experience. They offer financing too.
Their prices are in line with other comparable products. It comes with a 10-year warranty and a 120-day sleep trial. They also offer free shipping and returns. If it doesn’t work out, they’ll come and pick up for you. The company donates one mattress to charity for every 45 they sell. That speaks volumes about the corporate culture and its commitment to give back to the community.
With a name like DreamCloud, you know it’s worth a look. The manufacturer takes its brand seriously with a luxury offering that ticks off all the boxes if you can offer to splurge. It starts with its cashmere-blend cover and continues with its eight layers of comfort. It’s a luxury firm mattress that is suitable for side and stomach sleepers.
Both the motion isolation and temperature regulation are excellent to ensure a good night’s rest. The materials are durable and resilient with plenty of bounce and comfort. You’ll get a 365-night trial along with a lifetime warranty on your purchase. It’s a bit spendier with a queen size one running $1,368 with white glove delivery service.
The Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress has the technology and design experience behind it to produce a quality product. Its 131 years in the industry says a lot about it. However, the company makes it harder than it should be to make a purchase. Prospective buyers want information especially these days with all the online options.
Direct-to-consumer businesses are a recent addition to the marketplace, making up only 5 percent. However, they are proactive on so many fronts including customer service and state-of-the-art technologies that make them worth considering for your short list. That wasn’t the case with the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress. We had more questions than answers.
The inconsistency of its branding on different e-commerce sites and the lack of transparency on its websites put it in the dealbreaker category. Our rating for these lines of mattresses is D. Our recommendation is to begin your search with the similar brands so that you can make an informed decision.
