Here are two beds that are in the top of their respective classes. Both should be considered if you are looking for a new mattress in the thousand-dollar range. Purple is a high-tech wonder mattress with funny marketing that cuts through the gimmicks.
Saatva started in the doorstep-delivery game back in 2010. One of the first sleep companies to do this. They quite literally changed the game in the way we purchase our beds. But what you
want to know is: After hearing so much bad talk about innerspring mattresses by all of these foam mattress companies, how do they compare?
Let’s put these two beds to the test and see which one is worth your hard-earned money.

Purple Recap Full Review
Why To Like The Purple Bed
- Uses inspiring technology
- It has 15 Patents.
- It gives pressure relief in any position.
- Purple is perhaps the most cooling sleeping surface on the market.
- The Bed is exceptionally durable.
- It has little to no off-gassing.
Why Not To Like The Purple Bed
- It has a much less conventional feel
Purple is by far the most exciting mattress company at the moment. Their hilarious marketing tactics and impressive technology are taking the bed business by storm. The founders of Purple have 30 comfort related patents, and the Purple® Bed uses 15!
The A-list star of the Purple Bed is their Smart Comfort Grid™ made with their Hyper-Elastic Polymer™. The polymer is a patented pressure-releasing material that is organized in a grid formation with walls that can support or fold when you add too much pressure. The design gives you hard mattress support with soft mattress comfort and pressure relief.
The hollow design lets air move freely. Air flow keeps the bed cool while you sleep and increases the longevity of the mattress because it prevents moisture from being trapped inside.
- You get 100-nights to test the Purple Bed risk-free.
- With the ‘No-Pressure’ sleep trail, Purple will pick up a returned mattress free of charge.
- Each bed comes with a 10-year warranty
- Free shipping inside the US and Canada.
- The foam used is CertiPUR-US® Certified.
- Made with food-grade and food-contact grade materials.
- Purple is hypoallergenic and non-toxic.
- Purple is manufactured in Utah.
How are Purple and Saatva Similar
These two beds cost the same amount for a Twin XL, Full, and Queen. However, the Saatva is around $100 more for the King and California King.
Purple® Beds are mailed directly to your doorstep. Saatva also comes to your home, but with the added advantage of a delivery man to set up your mattress for you.
Purple and Saatva are fantastic for back support and full-body support. Purple has coined the saying, ‘spoons you just right all night’. And Saatva’s coil on coil construction distributes your weight and keeps your back fully supported.
Saatva doesn’t skimp on their quality or their materials. You can see that even the stitching is top-notch. Purple also uses high-quality foams, and their proprietary polymer is known to be super durable. Both of these mattresses should last for decades if needed.
Lab tests show that the Purple and Saatva relieve pressure exceptionally well. Both Saatva and Purple show almost no pressure at all while sleeping on your back or stomach. Purple shows slightly less pressure for average sized people sleeping on their sides and Saatva a hairless for those on their back or stomach.
At this firmness level, Purple might be slightly better at supporting larger people, but that becomes moot with the fact that you can order a firmer Saatva.
How are Purple and Saatva Different
In a Queen, Saatva uses 884 individually wrapped comfort coils underneath their organic cotton cover and euro pillow top and lumbar support enhancing memory foam layer. There is also another light layer of foam between the wrapped coils and the innerspring section that makes up the main support for the bed. The foam between the two sets of springs acts as a transitional medium between the two and helps to absorb some of the deeper motion transfer.
The entire set of innersprings and coils are encased in Saatva’s Dual Perimeter Edge Support System. This is an uber high-density polyfoam that gives the Saatva unparalleled edge support. The additional support provided here makes this mattress very durable and worthy of its 15-year warranty.
Purple is a hybrid foam mattress, meaning they are no coils or springs. The comfort layer is two-inches of hyper-elastic polymer™ formed into Purple’s Smart Comfort Grid™. The polymer is recyclable, CertiPUR-US® certified and made from food-contact-grade ingredients. What this means is you can sleep well knowing that the surface you are laying on is safe.
Underneath the comfort-layer is a high-density polyurethane layer of Plush Comfort Foam. Again, certified by CertiPUR-US® and the foam is designed to enhance the responsive nature of the Smart Comfort Grid. Below this is the support layer or ‘base layer’. This is more high-density poly foam but firmer than the Plush Comfort Foam. This layer is what gives the Purple Bed its foundation and structure.
Saatva would be the winner against many other spring mattresses, but the Purple mattress is a little bit better at absorbing energy and motion.
Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer and smart grid are hold up better than most foam beds. But Saatva’s Duel Perimeter Support System wraps around individual coils and innersprings to give their Luxury Innerspring mattress edge support like no other.
The Original Purple only offers the one mattress type. Saatva, on the other hand, gives you the option to choose between three comfort levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. They also offer two different aesthetic options.
Saatva goes the extra mile and offers one of the best warranties at this price-point. Saatva’s 15-year warranty is 50% longer than Purple’s standard 10-year limited guarantee.
Saatva offers 20 more days on their sleep trial than Purple. But they also charge you a hundred dollars if you decide to opt out. I think we’ll know within 100 days if we like the product or not. So, Kudos to Purple for not charging their customers for returns.
How They Feel
Many have stated that Saatva feels like a luxurious 5-Star hotel bed. It’s got that spring mattress bounce, yet the foam laced euro-style pillow top cover and upward facing convoluted foam hug your body just the right amount. Even though there is a bit of hug. You’ll never feel stuck or sunk into this mattress. The Luxury Firm is rated a 7 out of 10 in firmness by most Saatva reviews.
The individual coils do a phenomenal job of conforming to the points and curves of your body to reduce any discomfort around the high-pressure zones. It has that classic innerspring response and bounce, yet it doesn’t pinch or push back. You settle nicely into Saatva and dream that you are in staying in the Royal Penthouse.
Purple is different. It’s strange, yet wonderful. It doesn’t feel like memory foam; it doesn’t feel like latex, and it certainly doesn’t feel like an innerspring mattress. Purple has a bounce to it that feels almost as if you were floating on the surface of the bed.
You can instantly tell that it is equalizing pressure along your body and promotes proper spinal alignment. It’s also cool as can be. Even on hot summer nights, the Purple Bed sleeps wonderfully cool. The Purple Bed is rated at 6.5 to 7 out of 10 by most Purple Reviews.

Side sleepers will love this mattress because the 884 individual coils on a queen-sized bed move and conform to your shoulders and hips allowing for proper spinal alignment and luxurious comfort.
Stomach Sleepers: Choose Saatva
Many reviews point out how this mattress is a godsend for side sleepers. They are not wrong, but they missed the fact that stomach sleepers are kept in as close to a perfect position as one can be. Pressure sensors barely show any pressure at all when people are sleeping stomach-down.
People With Back Pain: Choose The Saatva
The pressure sensor maps in lab tests show almost no hot spots in any sleeping position. And there is the fact that layer of convoluted gel foam with spinal cooling gel over the individually wrapped coils will keep your spine in near perfect alignment each and every night.
Heavy People: Choose The Saatva
Larger people will prefer Saatva because there are more comfort level options. Plus, the insane amount of edge support will keep even bigger people feeling safely supported on the bed. The coils encased by two layers of high-density foam will effectively support extra weight and last for years.
Couples: Choose The Saatva
Saatva has far superior edge support. And although Purple will stop motion transfer a little bit better because of its foam nature, when your partner is sleeping like Mr./Mrs floppy-arms and crazy-legs you’ll be perfectly comfortable sleeping right on the edge of Saatva.
These two beds have a lot in common when it comes to the quality of materials and environmental awareness. But they are completely different designs. The Saatva Classic Luxury Innerspring mattress wins the day because the bed is more suitable for every type of sleeper. This is because you can order this bed in Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm. This aspect truly makes Saatva a bed that will be wonderful for anyone.
