They don’t have very much in common as far as construction of mattresses, but the design philosophy and some logistics are similar. We’ll look at both similarities and differences to see which mattress might be a better choice for you.

How are Puffy And Saatva Similar?

Let’s look at what they have in common.

Contouring And Support

There’s a lot of difference between the design specifics from each company, but one thing they have in common is the concept of contouring and supporting layers.

Conventional mattresses used to use inner springs as a support layer with not much cushion. They kept your spine straight but didn’t give your broadest points much contouring. It might have worked if you slept exclusively on your back, but those who changed positions or side-slept probably had pain in common pressure points.

Both of these mattresses have excellent motion isolation, so you get a more restful night’s sleep without rolling into each other all night long.

Manufacturing And Customer Service

Both companies manufacture their mattresses in the United States. There’s no extended wait time for shipping from overseas, and the mattresses spend less time wrapped in plastic. If it’s important to you, it checks that box.

Their customer service representatives aren’t officially listed as being in the United States, but it appears that they are. They both have excellent customer service reputations. They are understanding and deal with issues promptly. You shouldn’t have any trouble resolving a problem with either company.

Financing

Both companies offer the option of financing if you can’t swing the entire mattress price today, or you’d rather not pay in full today. Both use a third party, Klarna, to process those payment plan requests.

Off-Gassing

Both mattresses use eco-friendly materials and are certified by CertiPur-US. There should be very little off-gassing because they don’t spend much time wrapped in plastic, and their foams are low VOC.

VOC can irritate sensitive nasal passages, but with both of these mattresses, you should be fine. If you do have a slight odor, just allow the mattress to air out for a few hours so that you can sleep on it.

Accessories

Both companies also offer a variety of accessories to complete your new mattress. Puffy also makes a pillow, mattress protector, cover, and other accessories. You can choose between two different bases including an adjustable one.

How are Puffy And Saatva Different?

The overall construction of each company’s mattresses and some of the logistics are a bit different. Let’s go through each one.

Bed Models

Puffy makes all-foam beds with no inner springs. The Puffy original uses just two simple layers to achieve contouring and support. The first layer is their proprietary Cloud foam. It’s infused with gel and actively traps heat, moving it away from the body and returning the surface of the mattress to ambient temperature quickly. It’s responsive like latex with very little of the traditional memory foam hug. Dense support foam pushes back against your body and gives the mattress structural integrity.

Puffy Lux uses three layers. The top layer is the same as the original, but the next layer is a Cloud comfort foam that transitions the body to the support layer. It adjusts support so that your broadest points sink further into the mattress while it keeps your spine aligned. The dense support base prevents sagging and gives the mattress structure.

Puffy original is about a six on the ten point firmness scale while the Puffy Lux is between five and a half and seven. The Lux feels a lot softer than it actually is because the transitional layer provides graduated support for different parts of your body.

Saatva’s mattress is a hybrid option. It uses an organic cotton pillow top cover that provides comfort and molds to your body. Underneath, memory foam offers lumbar relief as your curves sink into the mattress while it fills in gaps around your lower back and waist.

The next layer is a set of individually wrapped micro-coils that contour underneath the memory foam. The coils are all individual to help isolate motion, giving you the bounce of innerspring without all the movement.

The support layer is full sized hourglass coils that push back against your weight to keep your spine aligned. The edges are reinforced to help with edge support. THere’s no sweet spot in the mattress.

Saatva comes in three different firmness preferences. The plush soft is rated at about a four on the ten point scale and is best for exclusive side sleepers. The Luxury Firm is a medium firm mattress good for combination sleepers and rated at about a six. The Firm option is best for back pain and stomach sleepers and rates at about an eight.

Materials

Puffy’s “foam” isn’t exactly memory foam. It’s a proprietary gel infused material that wicks heat away from your body the way a lot of activewear does when you exercise. It prevents hot spots from building up in the mattress and is a lot more responsive than traditional memory foam.

Saatva uses organic materials, but their foam layer is a traditional foam. It’s open cell to help with breathability, and the coil layers underneath have air pockets that also encourage air flow. Although it keeps you relatively cool, Puffy has the edge here with performance fabric.

Sleep Trial And Warranty

Puffy gives you 101 nights to try out your new mattress before deciding if it’s the right one for you. Make sure you give the mattress at least 30 nights before deciding officially. Mattresses, especially foam, need time to break in a little bit to provide optimum support. Also, your body needs time to adjust.

Saatva gives you 120 nights to try their mattress out, but the same advice applies. Make sure you give the mattress at least 30 nights so you’re fully able to decide if it’s the right one.

Shipping And Delivery

Puffy mattresses are made to order. When you order, the bed is manufactured and compressed safely for delivery. It arrives in a box at your front door. When you’re ready, unpack the box and gently tear the plastic away. Don’t cut it or you may accidentally cut the mattress. Allow it to inflate for a few hours. It should be ready in about two.

The delivery person won’t’ be available to help you set things up, so make arrangements if you need help. They can’t haul your old mattress away either. You won’t have to arrange for delivery, and everything goes on your schedule, but you won’t have any help.

There isn’t too much difference in price. Puffy original mattresses start at just under $800 for a twin and go up to about $1350 for a California king. The Puffy Lux begins at just under $1450 for a twin and is nearly $2000 for a California king. They frequently run specials that help make the prices even more affordable.

You get some movement when you want it, and none when you don’t.
