Nectar and Loom & Leaf Comparison

Not everything is different. Some things are similar.

How are Nectar and Loom & Leaf Similar?

Let’s take a look at what’s the same first.

Mattress Construction

Both mattresses use an updated mattress philosophy for contouring and supporting layers. Old mattresses were often supportive but lacked contouring. They forced your body to conform to the surface of the bed instead of the other way around. You would wake up with pain in pressure points and possibly sleeping extremities.

If your mattress was soft, it just sagged in the middle, giving soft mattresses the reputations for being painful and terrible for back support.

New styles of mattresses, including both of these companies, use different layers to help contour to your body and to support your spine. The top layer allows your broadest points to sink into the surface of the mattress while the support layers push back to keep your spine aligned.

This removes common pressure points without losing the support that your body needs. The result is a better, quieter, more comfortable night’s sleep.

Edge Support

If you can’t sit on the edge of your bed talking yourself into going for that 5:00 am run, what are you even doing? Both companies have reinforced edges on their mattresses, so there’s not a lot of compression towards the edge.

If you’re part of a couple, this is good news. You can sleep towards the edge without fighting over a sweet spot in the middle. If you’re a side or stomach sleeper, you can also use the edge to get into a comfortable position.

Motion Isolation

Sometimes people sleep like logs. Other times, they turn into salsa dancers. If your partner seems to levitate two inches off the bed before turning over, a mattress with motion isolation is essential. Both of these companies’ mattresses have excellent motion isolation so you won’t get jiggled awake every time your partner moves.

Motion isolation is also good if there’s a weight difference between partners. Even a slight weight difference can cause issues with sagging and indentation, causing partners to roll towards each other in the night.

Motion isolation gives both partners a pristine surface to sleep without indentations.

Temperature Regulation

Memory foam has a reputation for being hot. Both companies have taken steps to ensure that heat isn’t stored in the mattress and reflected back to your body.

Nectar uses gel infused contouring layers. Gel pulls heat away from your body, quickly dispersing it throughout the mattress. The top layer is quilted for loft and better air flow. As you move around, you force air through the layers of the mattress, and that helps improve breathability.

Loom & Leaf also uses gel infusion to create a more cooling mattress. It draws heat away from your body and helps keep things cool.

For both mattresses, cooling is passive. They’ll return the mattress to the ambient temperature of the room more quickly, but if your room is warm, the bed will be too.

Memory foam also has a reputation for having an odor. However, both Nectar and Loom & Leaf use foams with fewer VOCs and emissions. They aren’t as likely to irritate your respiratory system or cause issues for people with allergies.

Both companies offer the option of white glove delivery. If you aren’t able to set your mattress up for yourself, a delivery person will help you set everything up and remove all packing materials. You can also have them remove your old mattress making the transition seamless.

Loom & Leaf’s service is free, but Nectar does charge an extra fee for that option. Nectar also has a free standard delivery without the option of setting up and mattress removal.

Manufacturing and Customer Service

Both companies manufacture their mattresses in the United States. If it’s important to you to support United States industry, both of these companies check those boxes.

Both have excellent reputations for customer service. Issues get resolved politely and quickly. Neither company mentions officially where their representatives are located, but it appears they’re located in the United States as well. You shouldn’t have any language barrier issues.

How are Nectar and Loom & Leaf Different?

The execution of mattress layers, as well as a few of the logistics, are different. Let’s take a look.

Mattress Models

There is just one option for both companies, but Nectar’s is a universal firmness level while Loom & Leaf offers a few choices.

Nectar uses Tencel cover materials. Tencel is better at conducting heat and removing moisture than other types of cover materials. The top two layers are gel contouring layers. The top is quilted for better loft and improved air flow. The next layer is a transitional layer of adaptive foam that helps with responsiveness and bounce.

The bottom layer is a dense support foam that pushes back against your body to prevent sagging and help support the spine. It gives the mattress edge support and structural integrity. It’s rated at about a seven on the firmness scale, which is considered medium firm and universally comfortable.

Loom & Leaf

Loom & Leaf uses a quilted cotton cover to help with breathability. The next layer is a gel contouring layer to help with temperature regulation. It quickly draws heat and moisture away from your body and disperses it throughout the mattress.

The next layer is a solid foam transition layer. It supports your body where you need it and provides a response. Underneath, the dense support layer pushes back against your weight to keep your spine aligned and to give the mattress structural integrity.

It comes in two different firmness options. The Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm option comes in at about a five and a half out of ten on the firmness scale while the Loom & Leaf Firm offers you a firmness level at eight.

Sleep Trial And Warranty

Nectar has one of the best sleep trials on the market. They offer you a full year to try the mattress out. If it isn’t going to work out, just return it before the trial period is up. We recommend sleeping on the bed for at least a month before you decide so that the bed has time to break in and your body has time to adjust.

Loom & Leaf offers you 120 nights to try the mattress out. Again, sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before deciding if it’s the right one for you. Old pain needs time to subside, and the bed needs time to break in.

Nectar’s lifetime warranty covers mattress defects. Make sure your mattress is fully supported and you aren’t using the mattress for anything other than its intended purpose, or you may accidentally void the warranty.

Loom & Leaf offers a 15-year warranty for mattress defects. Make sure your mattress is supported adequately so that you don’t accidentally void the warranty because of stress on the base layer. Also, only use the bed for its intended purpose.

A big difference between the two is the price. Nectar is less than $1000 for any size including a California king. A twin starts at less than $400. Nectar’s option is a great budget option if you’re buying mattresses for multiple members of the family or if you have a tight budget.

A twin for Loom & Leaf starts at just under $750 and goes up to just under $1700 for a California king. Still, a significant investment considering the same mattress at a mattress showroom would be three times that much, but it’s going to increase your total budget if you go this route over Nectar.

And The Winner Is…

Nectar! Buy Online Now

We’re confident recommending Nectar as the best choice based on our analysis of key factors that an average, discerning mattress shopper would care most about.

Nectar’s sleep trial and warranty win us over here. While we wouldn’t usually discourage you from spending money on your health and wellbeing, but Nectar’s construction is excellent. The increase in price from Nectar to Loom & Leaf isn’t enough to make us switch. Nectar’s mattress should give you plenty of comfort and support without having to spend the extra cash.

A year-long sleep trial and a lifetime warranty are the best in the business. Even though the white glove delivery option is extra, it’s worth it for the amount of time you get at the trial and the coverage of the warranty. Overall, Nectar’s value is better. Even with white glove delivery fees, you’re still coming out cheaper.

For sleepers with specific needs…

Side Sleepers: Choose Nectar

Here’s why… Nectar uses a combination of layers that are excellent for combination support. You should have plenty of contouring even if you’re a side sleeper because the firmness level is universally comfortable.

Stomach Sleepers: Choose Loom & Leaf Firm

Here’s why… Loom & Leaf’s firm option rates at about an eight on the ten point scale. This firmness level should prevent your spine from overextending. That kind of firmness is necessary to keep the back in the right position despite the pressure of stomach sleeping.

Back Pain: Choose Nectar

Here’s why… Nectar is universally comfortable. Medium firm is supportive enough to allow your spine to align and the foam fills in around your lumbar region and lower back, so you don’t experience pain. Your spine can decompress, and you should feel a reduction in your overall pain levels over time.

Heavy People: Choose Neither

Here’s why… Neither option takes the unique needs of a heavier person into consideration. The foams aren’t going to be as durable with extra weight. Plus, you’re going to interact with the support layer much more quickly, losing the support of the contouring layers and causing some pain. We recommend finding a bed that’s made specifically for you, such as Winkbeds Plus and Ghostbed.

Couples: Choose Nectar

Here’s why… Nectar’s combination support is excellent for couples because different people rarely have the exact same preference. It provides excellent support for different sleep positions, and medium support is considered universally comfortable. Plus, edge support helps you use every square inch of the mattress.

We firmly believe that Nectar’s mattress provides excellent value for the money. There isn’t much reason to spend more on Loom & Leaf unless you want a truly firm mattress. However, we think that the combination of support and medium firmness level should be very comfortable for the majority of sleepers. It’s always nice when the budget option offers the best value.

Also, the sleep trial and warranty are some of the best in the business. It can give you a lot of comfort knowing that you’re purchasing a mattress from the internet and you’ve got these excellent guarantees to keep you from making a mistake.

It can be challenging to make a decision with all the choices out there, but it does help that you have an option that won’t kill your wallet and has very generous guarantees. It’s fantastic to feel like you’re going to get a good deal and get something that will transform your sleep situation. It’s an excellent situation
