Loom & Leaf and Amerisleep Comparison

They do have a bit on common as far as mattress philosophy and logistics, but not everything is the same.

How are Loom & Leaf and Amerisleep Similar?

Let’s break it down.

Mattress Philosophy

Memory foam was probably a revolution for those of you who couldn’t quite get the right amount of contouring and support with an innerspring mattress. Instead of forcing your body into unnatural positions and causing you to toss and turn continuously, memory foam hugged your body into a position that suspended your pressure points and aligned your spine.

Both companies use memory foam to give you support and reduce the amount of pressure you feel on your curves. They accomplish this with different layers of contouring and support foams. The contouring foam molds to your body and allows individual parts to sink further into the mattress. For example, instead of crumpling your shoulder into your chest, the foam gives way underneath, so you sleep more aligned.

The support foam pushes back against your body to keep you from sinking too far into the mattress. It helps your spine decompress and stay aligned. It holds your body in place, so you’re less likely to toss and turn looking for a comfortable position.

Some online mattress companies offer only one type of mattress. It hits the broad middle of the firmness scale and is targeted to a general audience. Loom & Leaf and Amerisleep, on the other hand, offer two different firmness options, so you have more control over how your mattress feels. For some of you, this is going to be excellent news.

Motion Transfer

If your partner is never still even in sleep, you’ve probably been woken up in the middle of the night with a jiggling bed. It’s annoying, right? Memory foam does an excellent job of reducing this phenomenon, called motion transfer, and these companies are no exception.

You should feel almost nothing from the other side of the bed, and it only reduces further if you choose the softer versions of each company’s mattress.

Another benefit is that you won’t experience the dreaded weight depression that some innerspring mattresses give you when one partner is significantly heavier than the other. If you’re sick of drifting towards your partner in the middle of the night, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by these mattresses.

Edge Support

Memory foam sometimes collapses towards the edges because there isn’t enough structure throughout the mattress to support the sides.

The mattresses from both of these companies have better edge support because of the adaptive layers of foam. You’re going to lose a bit of your support if you choose a softer version of these mattresses, but even then, you should still be able to use all the real estate of your bed without worrying about falling off the side.

Eco-Friendly Materials

It’s important to both companies to provide mattress materials that are better for the environment and your health. Both mattresses are certified by Centri-Pur and have little to no off-gassing.

They both use plant and bio-based foams rather than those made of petroleum products. Loom & Leaf uses a natural flame retardant made of thistle, and their materials have a naturally anti-bacterial coating.

Both companies are dedicated to green facilities as well. Loom & Leaf’s factories are solar powered, and Amerisleep’s conform to the Clean Air Act and even produces cleaner air than when the manufacturing is completed.

Manufacturing and Customer Service

Both companies manufacture their mattresses in the United States. If it’s important to you to support American made companies, each of these are proud to provide jobs and manufacturing right here in the country.

Customer service also appears to be located in this country. If you need to resolve an issue, it can be frustrating to deal with outsourced customer service. Both companies have a reputation for being extremely helpful and making the customer service process straightforward and useful.

How are Loom & Leaf and Amerisleep Different?

Let’s get to the good part, shall we?

Mattress Styles

Both companies offer you a choice with firmness but let’s take a look at the details.

Loom & Leaf

Loom & Leaf offers one style of a mattress but with two firmness choices. The bed uses an all-cotton cover for better temperature regulation and fewer toxins. Underneath is a cooling spinal gel layer that contours to your curves and disperses heat.

The heart of the mattress is a five-pound foam layer that’s a non-toxic, eco-friendly foam. It gives you support and improves the overall durability of the bed. It’s sandwiched between other support layers of foam for a solid bed with good edge support.

The softer layer is rated at about a six on a ten-point firmness scale while the firm choice is rated closer to an eight.

Amerisleep divides their mattress into soft and firm options with a range of five different firmness levels between the two categories.

All of the mattresses use three layers to contour and support. The top layer molds to your body while the transitional layer builds your firmness preference and eases your body into the support layer.

Amerisleep uses a material called Celiant for their covers. It wicks moisture and heat away from the body better than other materials while remaining stretchy and soft. Amerisleep also uses a bouncier foam for better pressure relief and response.

The softest mattress is rated between a three and a four on a ten-point softness scale while their firmest option is rated at about an eight. There are three other options in between so you should be able to tailor your exact firmness preferences.

Trial Period

Amerisleep gives you 100 nights to sleep on your new bed while Loom & Leaf gives you 120 nights. We recommend sleeping on your new mattress for at least a month to allow your body to adjust and to see if your pain subsides.

Once you decide the mattress isn’t for you, the companies pick up your bed for an exchange or refund, and the mattress is donated.

Loom & Leaf’s mattress is just under $1200 for a California king. Amerisleep’s mattress starts at the firmest option with about $1400 for a California king. It goes progressively up from there with the softest option capping out at $2300. You can also choose a split king for different firmness levels at the cost of about $3500

This range makes the Loom & Leaf version the most economical because although you get to choose your firmness with Amerisleep, you’re going to pay for it. The medium option that most closely corresponds to Loom & Leaf is about $200 more expensive.

Loom & Leaf’s five-inch foam can’t be compressed without compromising the quality of the mattress. Instead of shipping in a box, Loom & Leaf uses a traditional delivery service to bring your mattress to you. The delivery person is there to help you set up, and you can choose to have the old mattress hauled off when you check out on their website.

Amerisleep ships your mattress compressed into a box. When you release the packaging, the mattress bounces back to the original shape. Amerisleep delivery people are not there to help you set up, so you’ll need to be able to handle your mattress on your own.

This delivery style will save you shipping (Amerisleep ships free) but if you aren’t in a position to get things set up, paying Loom & Leaf’s delivery fee ($99) is worth it.

Loom & Leaf offers a ten-year warranty for replacement of defective mattresses. Amerisleep provides a 20-year warranty in two parts. The first ten years is a full replacement and the second ten years is a prorated replacement period.

For Sleepers with Specific Needs…

Side Sleepers: Choose Loom & Leaf

Here’s why. The soft option of the Loom & Leaf offers excellent contouring and support while providing the softness and edge support you need to find a comfortable position. Also, it’s going to cost you a little bit less than Amerisleep’s medium or soft option.

If you have a lot of pain as a side sleeper and find that you need the absolute softest option available, it might be worth the extra cost for the extra soft Amerisleep, but consider what you mean when you say soft because it’s going to be a hefty sum more.

Stomach Sleepers: Choose Loom & Leaf

Here’s why. Loom & Leaf’s firm option provides excellent support and prevents your back from overextending. It allows you to sleep all the way to the edge and discourages tossing and turning. It also has the pricing edge over Amerisleep’s firm option.

Back Pain: Choose Loom & Leaf

Here’s why. Again, Loom & Leaf’s firm option provides excellent support for your spine and pressure points in your lumbar region at just a shade cheaper than Amerisleep. It discourages position changing and reduces the likelihood that you’ll wrench your spine in the middle of the night looking for a comfortable position.

Heavy People: Choose Neither

Here’s why. Sorry, this is one of those times when we’d love to recommend one of the mattresses, but both fall short. Neither are rated for heavier sleepers, and we feel like there are other brands out there (Winkbeds Plus) that can cater to your specific needs.

Couples: Choose Loom & Leaf (with one exception)

Here’s why. Loom & Leaf provides excellent support for couple’s combination sleep preferences at a better price than Amerisleep. That said, if you cannot decide on one type of mattress, Amerisleep offers a split king option that’s a little bigger and works well with adjustable bases.

However, overall Loom & Leaf is going to be the most economical option without sacrificing any of your sleep preferences, or that luxe feel Loom & Leaf is famous for.

It is exciting at first to think about having more firmness options with Amerisleep, but overall, you’re going to end up paying more for those options. The Loom & Leaf has two different options that cost the same price, unlike Amerisleep, and those two options are still cheaper than the comparable Amerisleep choice.

While we certainly believe that spending money on your health and well-being is an excellent investment, in this situation, we can’t justify the higher prices of Amerisleep. Unless you need a mattress on the extreme soft end of the scale, you’re going to get more value for your money with the two Loom & Leaf options instead of the five Amerisleep options.
