What To Like

  • Durability. The hyper-elastic polymer™ may make it the most durable ‘bed in a box.’
  • Technologically advanced.
  • Extremely pressure relieving.
  • The sleeping surface stays cool even during the summer months.

What Not To Like

  • Has a unique feel that you might not be accustomed to.
  • Purple is only available online.

Purple might be the most exciting mattress company on the market right now. With their creative marketing techniques and the fact that the company came to life through a Kickstarter campaign, it only takes Tony & Terry Pierce (the founders) a couple of years to grab our attention. Really, guys … This mattress was designed by a rocket scientist and has 15 patents? That’s pretty awesome.

The focal point of the Original Purple mattress is its patented hyper-elastic polymer™ material that is used in the comfort layer on the surface of the bed. Beneath Purple’s unique 2-inch comfort layer, there is a 3.5-inch transitional layer of polyurethane foam and 4-inch polyurethane base layer.

Considerations

  • Purple offers a 100-night, ‘No Pressure’ Guarantee. They do ask that you try for at least 30 days so that your body can adjust. But if you do opt out, they will issue a full refund and pick up the Purple® Bed at no charge.
  • The Purple® Bed comes with a 10-year limited warranty.
  • Purple offers Free Shipping to the Contiguous United States and Canada
  • CertiPUR-US® Certified – Purple mattresses surpass these intense environmental standards.
  • Non-toxic and HypoAllergenic.
  • Purple is made in the USA.

Casper Recap Full Review

What To Like

  • Head-to-toe pressure relief.
  • 2018 iteration offers noticeably better support.
  • 2018 version seems more durable.
  • Casper recently partnered with Target, so you can see products in stores.

What Not To Like

Casper is dominating the bed in a box industry. Just five years ago, the five co-founders were randomly sitting next to each other in a New York City startup accelerator. The brand has gone from $0.00 to a $500 million valuation in just four short years. Casper Sleep is doing something right. And If that isn’t the stuff dreams are made, what is?

Casper’s Flagship model, The Casper has recently undergone a 2018 update. It boasts four layers of foam and is 10 inches thick. The 2018 iteration comes equipped with a latex foam comfort layer to combat sinkage and comes delivered in a compressed box with a stylish two-tone (white and grey) removable polyester blend cover.

Considerations

  • A sleep-trial of 100-night for you to decide whether not this mattress is right for you. If you decide that you do not want to keep The Casper, they will pick up the bed for free.
  • A limited-warranty lasting ten years which should alleviate durability doubts.
  • Casper ships this product for free in the contiguous United States and Canada.
  • Casper mattresses are CertiPUR-US® Certified
  • Casper is made in the United States of America.

Casper and Purple Comparison

Now that you know a little bit about each of these beds, we can identify a few areas where they are similar. But more importantly, we get to explore a few of the differences that may be critical to your buying decision.

How are Casper and Purple Similar?

Price

These two products come in at virtually the same price point for the Twin XL, Full, and Queen which eliminates cost as a determining factor in your purchasing decision.

Warranty & Shipping

Both Casper and Tuft & Purple offer a 10-year limited warranty. They also offer free shipping to the contiguous United States and Canada and are kind enough not charge you to pick up a returned mattress.

Delivery

The Casper and Purple® Beds are both known as leaders in the bed-in-a-box market. The only difference is that instead of being delivered to your door in a compressed box, Purple® Beds come to your doorstep in a tightly rolled bundle.

Sleep Trial

Both brands offer a 100-night sleep-trial with full refund available to those who are not 100 percent satisfied with the product.

Back support

Although they have a different feel, they both offer head-to-toe spinal alignment and support in all the right areas.

Motion Transfer

Both of these beds handle motion transfer reasonably well. Though not the best at dispersing the transfer of energy along the surface of the bed, they both fit within the current industry standards.

Firmness

Although Casper reviews rate their mattress around a 7 out of 10 and Purple® Bed reviews usually come in at around a 6.5 out of 10 with regards to firmness, the unique responsive nature of Purple makes it feel a little firmer than it is. These two beds are very close to how firm they feel.

How are Casper & Purple Different?

Construction

The first layer in the Purple mattress is its show-stopper. The hyper-elastic polymer™ material is used to create a Smart Comfort Grid™ of hollow squares. Each square has a pressure threshold and will collapse, transferring the extra pressure to the nearby areas on the Smart Comfort Grid ™. The column design of the grid allows for free airflow, which keeps the sleeping surface cool while you sleep.

The transition layer is a plush polyurethane foam that helps act as a medium between the hyper-elastic polymer™ comfort layer and the base. The base layer is 4 inches of high-density polyfoam. This stronger, foam has a 2-lb density and works as the bed’s foundation, giving its structure and support.

The Casper’s design is wholly different. The comfort layer is an open-cell latex foam that adds a quicker response than traditional memory foam and also helps to keep the sleeping surface cool throughout the night. The next layer is made up of a pressure relieving memory foam. This is the responsive layer. It helps the mattress to conform to your body correctly and to draw surface heat away from the sleeper.

The Casper’s transition layer is its trademarked Zone Support system which utilizes slightly lower density polyfoams near the shoulders and lower legs to control support and spinal alignment. The base layer is a heavy-duty polyurethane foam that gives the bed its foundation and shape and adds to the edge support.

Technology

While the Casper is quite enjoyable to sleep on, it isn’t anything that we haven’t seen before. The Purple stands out with its 15 different patents and pleasantly unique feel.

How Cool They Sleep

The airflow that takes place within the columns of Purple’s Smart Comfort Grid is nothing short of amazing. Yes, The Casper hits the industry standards and sleeps fairly cool, but Purple® Bed smashes them. I would be hard-pressed to find a mattress that sleeps any cooler.

How They Feel

These two beds do not feel the same to sleep on. Both have a more bounce than standard memory foam beds, but the Purple® Bed is unique feeling to the point that is hard to describe. If you want a traditional memory foam or latex foam feel, the Purple Bed might not be the right choice for you. But if you are ok with a new and pleasurable sleeping sensation, you should give Purple a try.

When you push into the Purple Mattress, you can immediately feel that it has a rapid response, even faster than latex. Because of this, it initially feels firm, but once you press a little bit harder and the columns in the hyper-elastic polymer™ collapse, you see how pressure-relieving it is.

This combination makes the Purple a different feeling mattress. It is bouncy like latex, and you float on top, but without any hotspots on the major pressure points. Because you do not sink into the bed, it allows for natural body movement. This makes it the perfect mattress for combo-sleepers.

The Casper’s latex foam comfort layer keeps you sleeping mostly on top of the bed. But you won’t be disappointed if you are used to more traditional foam mattresses as the Casper still has a little bit of sink and hugs your body.

The responsive latex foam layer coupled with Casper’s trademarked Zone Support makes this mattress comfortable in almost any sleeping position. Even heavier people should feel comfortable on back, stomach, or side.

The Covers

The Purple’s cover is a soft and breathable blend of polyester, viscose, and lycra. Known as their Responsive Knit Cover, it is designed to maximize the flexing properties if the Smart Comfort Grid™ made of hyper-elastic polymer. Casper’s cover is a polyester blend that is light and breathable, but not super stretchy like Purple’s knit cover.

We’re confident recommending Purple as the best choice based on our analysis of key factors that an average, discerning mattress shopper would care most about. For Sleepers with Specific Needs

Side Sleepers: Choose Purple® Bed

Side sleepers often have it the toughest. The pressure points in their hips and shoulders are more profound than that of back or stomach sleepers. The Purple Bed’s patented technology adapts to the body’s pressure points to give side sleepers the best sleep they’ve had in years.

Stomach Sleepers: Choose Purple® Bed

A common problem for stomach sleepers is the ability to breathe normally. This is because uneven support causes the back to arch and puts pressure on the chest area. Purple mattresses eliminate this problem, making Purple Bed the right choice for stomach sleepers.

People With Back Pain: Choose Purple® Bed

Beds that are too soft, that have sag and do not support your back will aggravate chronic pain. Unfortunately for back pain sufferers, beds that are too firm push the spine out of alignment and also contribute to back pain. Purple provides head-to-toe support and relieves pressure in all the right places. This promotes proper spinal alignment which should help to reduce back pains.

Heavy People: Choose Purple® Bed

Many mattresses can only handle weight distribution for petite or average-sized people.

But larger people benefit from Purple Bed’s hyper-elastic polymer columns ability to transfer weight and pressure to the surrounding columns in the Smart Comfort Grid, making this the right choice for them.

Couples: Choose Purple® Bed

Edge support and motion transfer a couple of things to consider if you share your bed with a partner. The individual square columns in Purple Bed’s Smart Comfort Grid help to isolate motion so that you can remain undisturbed even if your partner is moving around.

Conclusion

Purple® Bed offers groundbreaking technology and previously unexperienced sleeping comfort delivered directly to your door at an affordable price. Many bed companies claim to make sleep products that are ‘one-size-fits-all’ or will work for any style of sleeper, but Purple pulls it off and delivers on these claims.

If Purple is a little too bold for you, but you’re interested high-tech mattresses, you may want to have a look at AmeriSleep’s AS3.
